Mid-Plains Fiber Fair 2020 and Covid-19
After much discussion, the Mid-Plains Fiber Fair board has decided to cancel the 2020 fiber fair. We will regroup and resume in 2021.
We have many reasons for doing this:
First of all, many other events are being shut down across the state. With the current atmosphere, we worry that if we were to hold the fair anyway, attendance would be poor. It is also possible that public events could be shut down, and we would then have hundreds of people with travel plans, hotel reservations, etc. who would be out money or otherwise inconvenienced. In addition, if we continued with the fair for this year and spent our budget on booklets, posters, and other things, we would not be able to recoup those losses, which might kill the fair forever.
Finally, and perhaps more importantly, we do not wish to contribute to spreading this disease. In addition to the older people who attend and are most at-risk, if we had even one attendee share so others brought it home, there could be devastating consequences.
Thank-you all for your support and understanding in this time. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for next year, please feel free to email or call me.
Best wishes for good health,
-The Mid-Plains Fiber Fair Board
